China’s future large aircraft imagination

According to the China Industry News, competitiveness and international cooperation are compulsory courses before a large aircraft "takes off."

On December 29, 2007, Premier Wen Jiabao made a special trip to Xi’an Aircraft Industry (Group) Co., Ltd. to inspect and welcome the 2008 New Year with Xifei people. Premier Wen pointed out that the independent development of large aircraft is a major strategic decision made by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council, which means that the Chinese people will use their own hands and wisdom to create a competitive large aircraft in the world.

What is competitiveness? It is to achieve mass production and achieve the three important goals of safety, economy and comfort, so as to be competitive in the domestic and international markets. The large aircraft that Premier Wen refers to as competitive in the world refers to the civilian passenger aircraft (hereinafter referred to as the large aircraft) in China’s large aircraft.

What kind of big aircraft does our country want to build? Industry insiders pointed out that we must first start with the nature, market, model, range and non-large regional passenger aircraft of the big aircraft. The general policy of manufacturing a competitive big aircraft in the world, of course, must follow Premier Wen’s instructions, concentrate on integrating the development and production resources of large aircraft, rely on national economic strength, scientific and technological innovation, rely on talents, and rely on the wisdom and creativity of every design and manufacturing personnel.

Safety factor, the first issue to be faced in large aircraft projects

Experts point out that the key to a large aircraft’s large fuel volume and long voyage is to consider safety factors, in addition to the following aspects:

At present, many airport facilities in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Oceania are very rudimentary, and the communication and navigation equipment is backward, or even there is no backup, which puts forward high requirements for the aircraft itself. Under special circumstances, the pilot must be prepared to land independently without relying on ground navigation, and the large aircraft to be manufactured in our country must have a clear understanding of this.

Second, it must be easy to operate. In view of the conditions of airports in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Oceania, large aircraft cannot pursue full electric operation, and must adhere to the combination of electromechanical and two sets of mechanical backup, and at the same time be easy to operate. Simply put, it is the optimization of Western avionics systems and Russian manual control systems. Therefore, such a large aircraft does not need Western avionics equipment as "foreign", nor can it be as "soil" as Russian manual control systems.

Third, the design of large aircraft should take into account harsh and extreme environments. The geographical environment of Asia, Africa, Latin America and Oceania is different, and the temperature difference between day and night in tropical desert areas is very large, which also puts forward high requirements for the fatigue strength, corrosion resistance and lightning protection of aircraft.

And four.Large aircraft should use the domestic Beidou navigation system. At present, although the GPS Global Position System is free, it is impossible to predict whether the situation will change in 2020. Therefore, even if it is not out of national pride of independent research and development, it should be adopted for economic and security reasons only. According to the conservative estimates of relevant people, by 2018, the Beidou navigation system technology will be very mature and has already been industrialized.

Improving the economy is an important foundation for participating in international competition

Industry experts believe that for the economy of large aircraft, in addition to engine fuel economy, the following aspects are also very important:

The first is that the self-weight cannot be too large. Due to the fact that the basic processes such as casting, forging and stamping in the Soviet Union are not up to standard, and the processing technology is not as good as those in the West, the main components of the aircraft cannot meet the design requirements, so they have to adopt reinforcement methods, resulting in problems such as low structural efficiency, high fuel consumption, and low transportation efficiency of the aircraft. Although the technology of European and American aircraft is good, it pays too much attention to economy, leaving little room for design indicators, so that users think that European and American aircraft are not as strong and solid as Soviet-style aircraft. Therefore, in addition to relying on advanced technology to reduce the inefficiency caused by the large weight of the aircraft, large aircraft in our country also need to use a large number of composite materials to reduce the weight Since the main markets for China’s large aircraft positioning are Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Oceania, as long as large aircraft are cheaper than European and American aircraft and more fuel-efficient than Russian aircraft, they will definitely find their own blue ocean.

The second is that it is easy to maintain and repair, and the maintenance and repair costs are cheap. The reason why Soviet aircraft are still widely used in third world countries is that they are easy to maintain and cheap. Therefore, large aircraft can take advantage of the advantages of Soviet Russian aircraft, otherwise they may lose the market if they are not high enough to be low enough.

The third is good versatility. There are many low-cost airlines in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Oceania, and most of them only purchase one type of aircraft or even one type of aircraft to reduce costs. Due to poor airport facilities, inconvenient transportation, and limited backup of aviation materials, this requires that the same model of large aircraft should be easy to disassemble and replace, and if necessary, the parts of one or two aircraft can be disassembled to ensure that one aircraft takes off.

Fourth, the continuity should be strong. China’s large aircraft must have its own characteristics, and the subsequent models must be inherited and continuous. Otherwise, the subsequent models of the aircraft cannot be accepted by airlines, because it is equivalent to two types of aircraft, and the maintenance cost will be greatly increased.
