Peng Yuyan’s "Tropical Past" was raised to 6.12, and the skinny characters became a mystery

1905 movie network news Directed and produced by a rookie director, Peng plays Wang Xueming, whose otherwise uneventful life is transformed by a steamy summer night when the entire city loses power. Wang Xueming’s erratic choices embroil himself in a complex case that alters the fates of everyone in the story. In the exposed trailer, Peng Yuyan was ruthless without a word. The thinner image, dim eyes, and collapsed eye sockets all made the audience question "Is this Peng Yuyan?", and the raised vertebrae were completely eye-catching, which also made the audience suspicious. For this reason, Peng Yuyan said, "This scene took off a layer of skin."

Acting in a dehydrated state, Peng Yuyan can’t sleep at night due to self-depression

Peng Yuyan plays Wang Xueming in the film, who is depressed, gloomy, and inarticulate. He always keeps his hat down and hides in the crowd, like a hidden person who has no sense of existence. Director Wen Shipei compares him to a black fish, while Peng Yuyan himself is an extremely positive optimist. Whether in life or on the screen, he is familiar with the image of positive energy, and his reason for taking the role is always related to this – "I hope it can infect or inspire people who watch movies." This time, to play a role that is very different from his own personality, Peng Yuyan needs to maintain a depressed state during the two-month shooting period. He has cut off many ways to make himself happy and immersed himself in the character’s state through physical training, dietary restrictions, and emotional control.

"Wang Xueming is not a happy person. I want to be ready when I shoot every day, so I often jog in advance, consume myself to a certain extent, and act in a dehydrated state, which is more like." Peng Yuyan revealed that during the two months of filming, he often suffered from insomnia, which coincided with the character. "Wang Xueming often suffered from insomnia, so his state was not very good, and I myself could not sleep during that time. I think this is a signal of my self-control in physical, diet and psychological, which in turn helps me to get closer to the character."

Revealing the original intention of the play: I hope to find the courage to face myself squarely

Peng Yuyan said that his original intention for taking on the role of "Once Upon a Time in the Tropics" was that he wanted to seek a kind of courage to face setbacks, and this is exactly what Wang Xueming’s role can give him. "The first time I saw the script, the most intuitive feeling was that it was very powerful. I hope this role can give everyone and myself a kind of strength. When encountering difficulties or mistakes that I dare not face, I can have the courage to look directly and bear it, and then I can grow. This is my original intention for taking this role."

"The attraction of Wang Xueming’s character to me is that he is looking for redemption through this event. Everyone will live in the past, and some people dare not face it. Xueming wants to forget the past, but he has to face it." Peng Yuyan said that making the movie "Once Upon a Time in the Tropics" has made him grow a lot. "When you look directly at your fears and the past, you can face the sun. This is a story of character growth."
